Hey folks,
It’s been a great ride getting to know tumblr and getting to know several people through it. Sharing my art and seeing much of yours. But, as per my obsession with my profession, I’m always seeking higher mountains to climb in skill. So over the past few days I’ve decided to dig my heels into wordpress. That being said, I’ve converted my website to a full on blog/portfolio site and will be blogging from there from now on. If you’d like to bookmark me or come check the site out as it’s being filled out, please visit www.adambunkedesign.com.
The site’s content is stil being developed and prepared for addition. But all the groundwork is done.
Enjoy.
And happy blogging :)
The journey begins again as I venture into rebranding myself. I love this process, so I try to do it every two to three years. It’s a great way to embrace new technologies and new techniques. I’m thinking this time around, I may end up merging my blog with my site (www.adambunkedesign.com) and go wordpress with the whole thing. Just develop a custom template. I’d also like to take my portfolio internal and have more control over how it’s displayed and interacted with.
It’s always so exciting :) making new business cards, updating the old résumé, putting together new contracts and legal forms, and carrying that brand through every other node your connected to. It’s nice to have projects where you can design just to speak with your voice with no constraints. This is me. Who I am. Unhindered.
Alongside this process will be my passion project for the year. Last year it was my book. This year it’s a 14 piece series commissioned by a church in the midwest. It’ll present unique challenges for me as an artist in several ways. I’m always looking for new ways to push myself to grow and evolve.
Go out and find your own passion projects. Do things for you, that speak to you. Allow yourself the freedom of unrestrained expression.
I was late to the game with Andy Samberg. But damn it all if this song isn’t stuck in my head, cracking me up all the time lately.
I feel spoiled at the office with my fancy pants intuos 4 tablet. But tablets have been a part of my workflow since way back with the shitty Wacom Graphire tablets that had barely any pressure sensitivity or workspace area. After that abomination, I fell in love with Nico Di Mattia’s photoshop speed painting (http://nicodimattia.com/) and wanted to know what tablet he used for his stellar work. And it was a shock that he used some $48 Genius tablet with a battery powered pen stylus. So that was my next tablet. That one served me well for years. All the work in my book and really most of my digital work to date was done on that guy.
But, as with most tech, you use it long enough and it begins to become useless. So around Christmas it came time to go back on the tablet hunt. Knowing how terrible the original bamboo series was from Wacom, I was concerned when I began perusing them. But this new line they’ve developed, especially the ‘Create’ series, are actually powerhouses. This new one supports multi-touch finger swipes without the need of a pen stylus. The pressure sensitivity isn’t that of an intuos but as someone that’s used tablets for over a decade, I really don’t notice that much. This tablet is phenomenal and I’m eager to get back to work on some fine art with it.
If you’re in the market, take a look at the Wacom Bamboo Create.
Here’s sort of a fun brand identity for a cookie maker. I’m a big fan of the vibrant color choices and the really sort of friendly, inviting type selections. It’s refreshing to see strong brand identities still being made.

Ah yeah, son! Finally some more legit design functionality for the iPad! I can’t wait to dive in and explore some (if not all) of these.
Honestly, I was so skeptical of the iPad when it first launched. But now? Now I don’t know how I did day-to-day without it. It’s phenomenal how quickly new toys can grow on you and adapt to be parts of your personal ecosystem. Or rather, we adapt to them.
Yeah. This? This is awesome. I know it’s $60 or so, but it’s the power of the ENTIRE emotional spectrum. Can you really put a price on that?
Over the last week I witnessed the end of one of the biggest personal projects I’ve thus far embarked upon. My first art book’s production.
Now, as an art director and a designer, I handle all kinds of projects. Big and small. But I’ve never had the chance to design a book from the ground up and this was just a really fun challenge.
I’ve been creating angels as an escape route into fine art for many years now. Chiseling away at a style until I found one I was happy with. So one of the harder parts of developing the book was sifting through all the years or work to find what made the cut. Did I want to make new pieces exclusively for the book? If so, how many? And when did I need to have them done by to meet production deadlines? Took a good amount of time and more than a little strategy. I even revisited a few and sort of reinvented them for the book.
I guess I can say now at the end of the project that I’m proud. I’ve seen so much support come out of my family and friends in the direction of my art and with this book. It’s adorning the homes of many of them as we speak.
Will I do another book? Well, probably not soon. But it was a fun ride and I hope everyone enjoys it.
